Sometimes you just never know what might happen on a sprinkler job. We were on a job in the University district (notorious for weird stuff since systems are very old) and the pressure on a zone wasn’t right. I just so happened to be turning a zone on and off to check it out and heard a weird “air gasping” sound under the ground. Needless to say this piqued my curiosity. So I dug up where I heard the sound while the zone was running (getting hit repeatedly by other sprinklers on the zone) and all of the sudden water started bubbling to the surface (picture 1). We shut the zone off, dug some more, and found a head buried (picture 2) at least 6 inches under the surface! What?!?! This was weird. We took the head out, plugged the pipe, and the pressure was fantastic on the zone. Sometimes you gotta put on your “Sprinkler CSI” hat in order to solve the mystery!
